"Small batch" gets used as a marketing phrase by almost every trek operator now, including some running groups of 20–25 and still calling it small. So here's what group size actually changes, operationally, not just as a feel-good line.
Guide attention scales down, not up, with group size
One guide can genuinely track the pace, breathing, and mood of 8–10 people closely enough to notice early warning signs — a slower pace, quietness, a change in gait. Past roughly 15, that attention necessarily thins, not because the guide cares less, but because human attention has real limits.
Pace flexibility
A small group can slow down for one struggling trekker without meaningfully disrupting the day's schedule. A large group either leaves someone behind with a second staff member (splitting the group's safety net) or forces everyone to slow to accommodate one person — both worse outcomes than a batch small enough that pace adjusts naturally.
Campsite and logistics impact
Tent capacity, food preparation timing, and toilet-tent queues all scale with group size in ways that erode the experience well before they become a safety issue. A 10-person batch eats dinner within 20 minutes of food being ready. A 30-person batch can mean an hour-long queue at altitude, in the cold, at 7pm.
Where the line actually sits
There's no single magic number, but past roughly 12–15 people per guide, most of these advantages measurably erode based on what we've seen across our own batches and comparing notes with other guides in the region. We cap ours at 6–10 specifically because that's comfortably within the range where a guide can still learn every trekker's name and notice things before they're said out loud.

For some people, yes — if that's what you want, a larger operator might genuinely suit you better, and that's a legitimate preference, not a wrong one.
Not necessarily — see current transparent pricing on each trek detail page.
